Welcome to the 2025-26 SHYBA Travel Team Tryouts
Additional Travel Program Details
1) Tryouts and Roster: The tryout schedules have been posted for all travel teams. In order to participate in tryouts, all players MUST be registered for SHYBA prior to the tryouts. There are no exceptions to this and player registrations will be checked prior to admittance to tryouts. As in previous years, there will be no parents allowed in the gyms during tryouts. For each team, the coach of that team and one or more independent evaluators will be there for the duration of all tryouts and will select the players for the team. There will be a maximum of ten (10) players selected for each of the Travel Teams. The roster will be posted on the SHYBA website following the conclusion of tryouts. If additional tryouts need to be scheduled for a particular team, then that will delay the posting of those results.
2) Priorities: The travel season will run from approximately October 13, 2025 through March 31, 2026. Pending the end of the fall sports season (football, soccer, baseball/softball, etc.), it is expected that the travel team will be the primary “sports” priority for your child. School activities, homework, family outings, vacations, church, etc. take precedence over travel basketball. However, Travel/All-Star soccer, football and softball, CYO and other sports need to be scheduled around the travel basketball schedule during these dates – travel basketball needs to be the priority over these activities. Other extra-curricular activities also need to be scheduled around the travel basketball schedule. Please talk with your coach about their policy in this area.
3) Financial Responsibility: If your child is selected to the team, there will be a travel fee of approximately $300, payable to SHYBA during the first week of practices. This fee is in addition to what was already paid to register for intramural and covers the extra gym time allotted for travel practices, equipment for the season, entry fee to The Inter-County Basketball Association (ICBA), referee fees, two tournaments for each team, uniforms for new players, and insurance. Each team will also participate in the travel raffle ticket fundraiser to help defray the costs.
4) Amount of Playing Time during the Season: Unlike the SHYBA intramural league, travel players are not guaranteed an equal amount of playing time during games. Our general travel policy is to ensure that everyone will play a minimum of 1/4 of each game and no player will play more than 3/4 of any single game. This may change somewhat during the playoffs. This general playing-time policy is up to the discretion of each head coach and is based, in part, on consistent attendance at practice by your son or daughter and their attitude, effort and team-oriented play during games and practices.
5) Practices: Travel teams have an average of two practices per week throughout the entire season, with more practices early in the season. We normally have one practice during the week and one on the weekend, but this can vary week-to-week. Consistent attendance at practice is important and could impact playing time if there have been absences.
6) Tournaments: The selection of which tournaments to play in are up to the decision of each individual coach. SHYBA, through some of the registration fees, will cover the cost of at least two (2) tournaments. If a team wishes to enter additional tournaments that could result in additional fees for that team paid for by parents of that team.
7) The ICBA Regular Season begins on or around December 15, 2025 and runs through approximately February 16, 2026 followed by playoffs. The regular season schedule is 12 games, 6 home and 6 away. The games can be any day of the week, but normally our home games are on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at a gym to be determined. But again, they can be any day of the week.
8) If your child is not selected for the travel team, he/she will be included in the SHYBA Intramural League. As a league policy, initial SHYBA registration fees (paid before travel tryouts) are not refunded if a player does not make a travel team as the player is included in the SHYBA Intramural League.
